Brighton & Hove Actually Women face Aston Villa Women in the WSL at the People's Pension Stadium |

The Seagulls host the Villians as we head back to the Broadfield Stadium for the last home game of the season. Seems an age since we have been here. The Villians are doing well but Carla Ward's resignation at the end of the season has just been announced so there is no telling how that will affect them today. The Seagulls still have Mickey in charge and there is no news of a permanent replacement. Sometimes it looks like the players need to be instructed on the pitch like they haven't trained in their matchday roles. The progress the was being made with Melissa has certainly flatlined if not gone backwards. A few changes in the line up with Jorelyn Carabali at right back mirrored by Poppy on the left with Guru and Dotti in the middle. Maisey and Ziggi seem to be playing in a double pivot that allows them to drop into the back 2 to make a 3. Vicky, who is captain as usual, is playing as an 8 with Lee on the left ⬅ and Haley Maddison, in a rare start👀, is on the right ➡. Terri is up front. A big change in goal with Sophie on the bench and Melina Loeck in in goal. First time we have seen her play, hope she has a good game. A few familiar names in the Villians with Rachel Daly up front, Jordan Nobbs in the middle with Swiss striker Alisha Lehmann and Scotland's Kirsty Hanson. Former Gooner Noel Maritz is in the defence. The Villa fans have come in some very strange fancy dress. Strange for the West Midlands that is. Just a normal day in Brighton. Hoping Super Mario is sobbing down the front of his dungerees by the end.
The Seagulls have obviously been practicing Micky ball and are looking much more confident and secure playing out from the back. Neither team is making any chances and the only impact Rachael Daly is making on the game is to annoy the Seagulls fans and the ref by rolling around on the ground anytime anyone comes near her. Daly did get a chance but hit it wide. Haley Maddison hit her chance over. The best change of the half fell to Kirsty Hanson who rattled the crossbar. Nothing extra to note and the rather dull half ended as 0-0.
The second half starts much the same with the Seagulls pushing forward to little effect. Our old enemy Lucy Parker comes on for the injured Miri Taylor on 56. Lee gets the best chance of the game on 64 so far but it's blocked. The Villians break the deadlock on 64 when Alisha Lehman's shot is deflected past Melina. That triggers some Brighton changes and Vicky is replaced by Katie Robbo. Haley moves centrally so Robbo can go on the right. The dynamics change and Robbo is getting down the wing and getting crosses in to put the visitors under some pressure. Another round of Brighton changes on 75 as Lee ♥ is replaced by Sarri. Vee goes on the right and Katie moves to the left. The Seagulls are pressing higher but have lost the effectiveness of Katie and her crosses as she has to cut in from the left. Might start a petition to ban inverted wingers. The pressure comes to nothing and it finishes 0-1 with the Villains taking the points.
It wasn't a particularly memorable game and could have easily have ended 0-0 but for a lucky deflected goal neither team had any great chances. The Seagulls have got much more competent and confident at passing out from the back and looked better structured with the ball. Shame they weren't able to generate some better chances but looked better doing their own thing with the ball. The Seagulls drop to 9th and are only kept out of the drop zone by Bristol City. A big step up needed for next season. Hoping that there is a manager announcement soon. That's it for the Broadfield this year but we have season tickets for the same seats next season so will be back for more Pizza 🍕and maybe even some football.
POTM: Goes to Katie Robbo 🏅for making a big difference off the bench and giving us some much needed excitement🏃🏼♀️.
