All Hastings And No Speed

Newhaven FC Ladies face Hastings FC Women in the London & South East

Division 1 South

The Dockers ⚓ Ladies host the "U's" Women at Fort Road. The free scoring visitors are 2nd in the league and unbeaten this season with 31 goals in their last 4 league games. The Dockers have lost their last 2 which were cup games but sit mid-table in 7th.

It started badly when the visitors took the lead in the first minute. Oops. By 35 minutes, we were 4-0 down ๐Ÿ˜ฎ.  Annie in goal did a good job of keeping the score down to 4 and stopping them running riot.  Having not played well to that point and been out competed all over the pitch, there was a sudden urgency about the Dockers and the last 5 minutes were by far their best spell but no clear cut chances.

A couple of changes at the break made a big difference and there was much more pace to the play. There were a few attacks and some better chances but the "U's" were still the better side. The 4-0 score line for the second half isn't really a fair reflection of the balance of play. Annie  in goal having had a great, if busy, 1st half, had a bit of a mare ๐Ÿด in the 2nd and it might have been kept to 2 had she maintained her 1st half form. So an 8-0 loss to a very good side shows the big differences in quality across this division. Some great players in the Hastings side especially no. 19 who was running the show at times.

POTM: Jamie Quinn who came on at the break on the left wing then moving more central later on. She has good pace and made the whole team much more dynamic going forward. Super sub!

No ferry today as the Winter timetable has started and the Seven Sisters is resting up for the Winter. ๐Ÿšข๐Ÿ’ค

Hot Chocolate was a lovely 8/10 today. Yum!

See you back here shortly.

Reality Czech

The Lionesses face the Czech Republic Women in a friendly at the AMEX Stadium

The Lionesses ๐Ÿฆ are back in action at the home of the Seagulls with a bit less at stake this time. It's a friendly against the Czech Republic who didn't qualify for the Euros and have also missed out on a place at the World Cup next summer. Will still be a tough test and they can score goals too.

A few of changes tonight with Lauren James in for Beth Mead, Eyelashes in for Georgia and Demi Stokes in for Rachel. The ceremony before the start was excellent again especially the flame throwing wheelie bins.

England playing in their very bright away kit were attacking from the whistle and came close when Lauren James hit the post after 3 minutes. We were camped out in the visitors half for long periods but the defenders got in the way of everything. The changes didn't seem to gel and high pace accurate passing never really got going well enough to break through the wall of defenders ๐Ÿงฑ. There were chances though, Chloe and Millie headed just wide and Ella's shot was saved. The Czechs had a good few attacks as well and were a threat on the break but the first half finished goalless.

The second half was much the same with England pushing at a closed door. There was more threat on the right as Beth came on for Chloe but even England Women's Footballer Of The Year ๐Ÿ† struggled to break through. There were a couple of good chances, the first looked like it had been bundled over and the second saw Fran's long range blast tipped over the bar. Serina made some more changes on her usual hour mark. Esme Morgan replaced Millie for her first cap. Looked good to, plenty of forward runs. Lauren James was replaced by Ebony Salmon who went up front with Hempo moving back to her usual place on the left. Their defence still held firm. Serena's last change was to swap Demi for Rachel who then surprisingly went up front. The tempo was raised for the last 10 but to no avail and it finished 0-0. Feels like a loss but takes Serena to 24/24 unbeaten.

Lionesses didn't quite roar with their usual ruthless ferocity tonight but the Czech goal was very well defended. Hope that Slajsovรก who went off on a stretcher is ok. Didn't look like much so was hopefully a precaution. We were sat right behind a camera man who was mostly focussed on the dug outs and we could see him zoomed in to Serena writing her shopping list. Milk, bread, a No. 9…

POTM: Lucy Bronze again, energy, skill and consistency. Her 100th cap today too. Honourable mention for Lauren James on her first start for the Lionesses.

Scranometer maxed out at the perfect 10/10 with the Vegan spiced vegetable pie. So good it required a second to double check.๐Ÿฅฎ๐Ÿฅฎ

That's it for watching the Lionesses this year. Hopefully be some more friendlies before the World Cup. Thank you ladies, it's been a great year. Football came home! ⚽️=๐Ÿ

Surrey Not Sorry

Tranmere Rovers FC visit Sutton United FC at the VBS Community Stadium in League 2

Rovers are away to the "U"s (not the U-turns, these wear yellow and those wear blue) at Gander Green Lane in Sunny Surrey. We are back here for the second time this year after getting a point during the losing run at the tail end of last season. This time we arrive having won the last three in the league and hoping to carry on that run here. Micky Mellon going for 4 in a row, 4 in a row.   The sun ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŒž is shining so here we go for our first Tranmere game of the season.

The Whites, (seem here in the teal 3rd kit) were aggressive from the off. Some good football being played at times. The 'Amber and Chocolates' lost a centre back to injury and the replacement didn't last long either. Bit fragile these, made of chocolate maybe ๐Ÿซ. Last time we saw Paul Lewis he was playing against us at Northampton but today he was partnered up front with Hemmings. He was fouled in the box and Hemmings ⚽ scored the resulting penalty on 19. Team work makes dream work. Both sides struggled to keep possession with lots of playing the middle 3rd. Lewis ⚽ got the second goal in the last minute of injury time 45+4, and we went into the break in the lead.

There were worries what would come next. Would Micky make defensive changes again? He didn't and the battle continued where it left off. It got more niggly and the ref got more random.  We made a couple of changes that were thankfully like for like. Substitute Elliott Nevitt had a good chance late on but could hit the target and the second half remained goalless.  Our first Tranmere win since January. Great team performance and 4th clean sheet too. A different world to last time we saw them play.

We remember this ref from Newport away earlier in the year. He had a better day today but that's not hard after last time. Still a D+.

POTM: Our new favourite, the man mountain that is Simeu. Simeeeeeuuuuuuuu

Ste-Award gets a 8/10 for being very friendly and taking the micky out of me hiding in the rucksack.

Scranometer registered a 5 for cold cheese ๐Ÿง€ on cold chips ๐ŸŸ.

Good to see the new away end finished and all the facilities upgraded. Like the shelf at the back of the stand where I can sit with Pepe.

Back at the AMEX again next Tuesday.  See you there.

Bye Bye Miss American Cry

England Women at home to USA Women in a friendly at Wembley Stadium

The Lionesses host the Stars and Stripes in a 'friendly' battle between the European and World Champions back at Prenton Park South. It's Football vs Soccer for bragging rights until next year's World Cup. A few squad changes with Leah and Alesia out injured, Greenwood is in at CB and Lauren Hemp is playing as the No. 9. It's the 50th Anniversary ๐Ÿฅณ of the first ever Lionesses match so loads of old Lionesses are here and the 1972 squad have been given special commemorative caps. Jill Scott is here too with the Euros Trophy. Cooorrr!. Time to get going. Good luck ladies.

The visitors started well and threatened with a number of attacks. 10 minutes in, some clever passing up our the right wing and a Beth Mead cross for Hempo ⚽ to score. We're in front. Hooray. It was all level on 28 when another quick attack led to a goal from Sophia Smith. VAR ๐ŸŽฅ Incident 1: Lucy Bronze was flattened in an England attack but the ref ignored it and the action was soon down the other end when the VAR called for a check for a red card. Result was a yellow card but also a penalty for the foul on Lucy. Georgia ⚽buried it as ever. 2-1 to the Lionesses. VAR ๐ŸŽฅ Incident 2: USA find the net but it is ruled offside. It was close though and will be a talking point. There were further good chances at both ends but it was still 2-1 at the break.

The second half started to get a bit more physical and bad tempered with chances both ways. Millie got booked for a tactical foul. Ella 'Eyelashes' ◠◠ Toone replaced Fran and Georgia had a couple of good chances. VAR ๐ŸŽฅ Incident 3: USA had a penalty awarded by the ref for a handball by RD3 but it was overruled by VAR. HA HA. Megan Rapino got boo'd even more when she was subbed off. Lauren James came on for Chloe for the last 10. There were no more goals. Aaaand breath.

It wasn't the goal fest of the last outing but a great result against a very good side. We were well tested and rode our luck for the win. First time this generation of players has beaten the women from across the pond. Serena still unbeaten 23/23.

POTM ๐Ÿ†: Lucy Bronze for the pass sequence for the first goal and outpacing Rapino amongst other things all up and down the pitch.

Ref had a bit of a shocker. Ref 0-3 VAR. Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Going to start rating stewards with the new Ste-Award. Starting with a 7/10 for being organised, helpful and doing the bag search indoors out of the rain. ๐Ÿ‘œ๐Ÿ‘€๐ŸŒง

Scranometer needed to apply for a second mortgage ๐Ÿ’ฐ but eventually registered an 8/10 for the vegan hot dog ๐ŸŒญ. Still too warm hot chocolate.

First time on an escalator  in a football ground as we needed 3 to get up to our seats up in the gods ⛰ . Got to ride on the tube ๐Ÿš‡ as well.

See you tomorrow at Sutton.

My Aim Is True

Newhaven FC Women v Fulham FC Women in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round at Fort Road

The Dockers face the Badgers ๐Ÿฆก from a higher division on the first step on the Road ๐Ÿ›ฃ to Wembley ๐ŸŸ. Only 720 minutes to play until the Semi-finals under the Arch. It's going to be tough as Fulham in various guises have won the FA Cup 3 times ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ† although not for 2 decades. Oops. And been runners up 3 times. More Oops. Let's hope for a cup upset this afternoon. The rain has stopped so let's get the journey started.

The visitors looked a class above when they walked out with their names on their shirts. Extra Oops. The home team were under pressure from the kick off but thanks to Annie in goal it looked like they might make it to half time without conceding. Hopes were dashed by Ogle on 35 minutes and it was 2-0 at the break thanks to True.

The difficult became the impossible as True and Ogle quickly made it 4. A quick 5th from Heasman left the Dockers looking for a consolation goal. Their tired legs were unable to break through and have the crossbar to thank for saving the possible 6th goal.

The score line didn't reflect the effort and organisation of the Dockers who were simply outclassed by a better team for a brief period either side of the break. Good test against tough opposition and a fair result doesn't make the defeat any easier. Cup action next week but hopefully easier opposition.

POTM: Annie Hills who's heroic efforts kept the score line in single figures.

It would be polite to say the ref has had better days but he is always like that. A couple of dreadful decisions and always in the way ๐Ÿคฆ.‍

Scranometer not on duty today. Hot chocolate was also a no show with a coffee all that was available. ๐Ÿ˜•

The Dockers sign off from the road to Wembley and we are off on the train ๐Ÿš† to Wembley to see the Lionesses ๐Ÿฆ v USA. Excited or what ๐Ÿฅณ.

See you Soon

A Home Away From Home

Newhaven FC face AFC Varndeanians in the relocated away meeting between the sides in the SCFL at The Trafalgar Ground

The Dockers ⚓️ face the V's at home in a tie that was re-scheduled from Monday due to the Queen's funeral ๐Ÿ™ (God bless you Ma'am) and then moved from the Withdean to Fort Road  for reasons unknown.๐Ÿคท‍♂️

The Dockers sit 2nd ๐Ÿฅˆ in the league and the visitors are yet to get going in 16th. The Fort Road boys are on a roll, lets hope that continues. It certainly did and they were composed yet aggressive from the start and a brace on 10 ⚽️ and  13 ⚽️ from Lukas set the tone for the night. Quality goals they were too. After a number of misfires, Alfie finally got his goal on 26 ⚽️ and Jack Meeres made it 4 on 39 ⚽️ to go in 4-0 up at the break. Don't think there is much coming back from that.

The V's were a bit more on the front foot after the restart but the Dockers defence was more than a match. The host were camped out in the other half for long periods and Tom Underwood made it 5 on 62 ⚽️. Demas Ramsis who was a nuisance or a delight to watch depending on your perspective got his goal on 68 ⚽️. Big Robbo came on with about 10 to go and made his make making it 7 on 84 ⚽️. 7-0 and another clean sheet put the Fort Road Boys on top of the league. not bad for a team that lost the first 2 games.

Really fantastic performance today. Everything just clicked and it was a joy to watch. 3 points and a big confidence boost with the next 2 games at home. Shame we won't be there for those.

Officials officiated. ๐Ÿคท‍♂️๐Ÿ‘

POTM: Lukas for 2 quality goals that set the tone so early into the match. Almost felt sorry for them at times.

Scranometer needed to be re-calibrated due to the change of venue. Having planned to have a meal in the carvery at the Withdean, it was the Fort Road Cheesy Chips ๐ŸŸ ๐Ÿง€ that registered a 7/10 tonight. Hot chocolate was the usual 8/10.

Off on our own international break now. Back in October

Stand By Mead

Brighton & Hove Albion Women away to Arsenal Women at Meadow Park in the first game of the delayed start to the WSL season

Seagulls face the Gunners at the home of Boreham Wood. It was always going to be a tough game for the visitors as the they go to the home of the Gooners who missed out on the WSL tile last season by a single point. Especially as they have a lot of new faces after some departures over the summer. Never thought we would be back at Boreham Wood after that day at Wembley when we escaped the National League but here we are. And it'd just a little bit warmer this time (no snow).

It started badly when Kullberg was sent off    ๐Ÿ‘‰ after just 7 minutes for tripping Swedish International Blackstenius about 2mm outside the box. Offside? Maybe but it was clearly going to be a long night for us and the Seagulls. They battled and defended but Scottish International Kim Little broke through the barricades to score on 27 ⚽. Time seemed to slow down as half time approached but we held on to the single goal deficit at the break. Phew!

The second half started on the front foot with the Seagulls best chance and only shot on target but it was well saved by Norwegian International Zinsberger. Blackstenius got her goal a couple of minutes later ⚽. The theme of international players getting goals continued when the Euros Best Player decided it was her turn and the Beth Mead revenge tour started it's WSL episode, killing the game off completely with goals on 63 ⚽, and 83 ⚽. The Seagulls crossbar had a good night, keeping out what would have been few more goals. It could have been worse against a team of some of Europe's top players and Hope and the ladies should be proud of their efforts tonight. There will be better games. ๐Ÿคž

Out of respect for the Queen, we held a minutes silence, sang the God Save The King and then in solidarity with those queuing to paying their respects in London, we queued for over an hour to get food. Scranometer was a potential 9/10 for a lovely egg ๐Ÿณ๐Ÿณ burger ๐Ÿ” and chips but disqualified ❌ by the length of the queue. Oops. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Officials did generally well but ruined the game with sending off Kullburg when Blackstinius had been off-side. The Seagulls didn't let their heads drop but an already difficult game suddenly became mission impossible.

POTM: VW20. Our rock at the back, Vicky Williams who seemed to be everywhere tackling here and blocking there.

Next up, AFC Varndean at the Withdean before we go on a short international break.

See you soon

Newhaven FC face Little Common FC at the Trafalgar ground in the Southern Combined Premiere League

Back to the league action as the Dockers take on the Green Hill Boys just a week after beating them 5-1 in the Peter Bentley Cup ๐Ÿ†away at the newly revamped Little Common Recreation Ground in Bexhill while we were up in Stoke.

Out of respect for Her Majesty The Queen, the fixture at the weekend was postponed and there was a minutes silence before kick-off . I voted for King Julien to get the gig but not sure that worked out. ๐Ÿ‘‘

The Dockers started how they left off last week as big Robbo found the back of the net in the first minute. Here we go again we thought, on for a hat full. We weren't surprised when Jack Meeres headed home on 11 minutes. The Dockers seemed to settle down a bit and visitors upped their efforts and it turned in to quite a battle. There were a few casualties with Alfie being the first and Demas also going off injured.

The score was unchanged at the break and remained that way until the hour mark when the Green Men (seen here in light blue) got a reward for their efforts. Newhaven hung on to their one goal lead and even had a few very good chances themselves and with a bit of luck, held on for the win. Not their best display but 3 points in the bag. Needed to have been more ruthless while dominant early on to kill the game off and ensure any consolation is just that. It's the important 3rd goal issue again.

POTM: Alfie had a great game until subbed off for injury and his physical presence was sorely missed. Hope he's not out for long.

Also goodbye, thanks and good luck to Marley who has left us for Saltdean, he will certainly improve that team with that strength and pace. Hope the lumps in the pitch have levelled out a bit ⛰.

No sign of the ferry ⛴. Not happy ๐Ÿ˜ข. Have written a formal complaint to DFDS ๐Ÿ“.

Subs Be Good To Me

England Women v Luxembourg Women in a World Qualifier at Stoke's Bet365 Stadium

The Lionesses face the Luxembourg Women at the home of the Potters in their last World Cup ๐Ÿ† Qualifying game. England have qualified after beating Austria at the weekend but Luxembourg can't now qualify. So, nothing to play for except pride and the Lionesses record of not conceding a single goal in qualification. These teams have only met once before and that was the reverse fixture which England won 10-0. What could go wrong?

Nothing as it happens. Serena's Lionesses, in their orange away kit tonight, were as ruthless as usual. Could have scored in the second minute but we had to wait until the 11th minute when a Georgia ⚽️ penalty hit the back of the net the after Russo was felled in the box. Russo ⚽️ got one herself on 17, Georgia ⚽️made it a brace on 26. Two quick goals from Rachel Daly ⚽️and Beth Mead⚽️, 38 and 39 took it to 5-0 at the break. We were glad of the breather after all that celebrating.

Some changes for the second half with Millie taking the arm band from Leah. Katie Zelem and our favourite, England on for England. England ⚽️scored for England after 2 minutes, Nikita⚽️ hit the net on 59 and Ella Eyelashes ⚽️made it 8 with a very cheeky penalty. It looked like that was it as it went a bit flat but 2 goals at the death from Lauren,⚽️ 90, and England⚽️, 90+2 made it a nice round 10 again. I was hard on Luxembourg who did nothing wrong and battled and tackled right to the final whistle but the quality of the Lionesses was too much for them. They should be proud of their performance in spite of the result.

Officials were good as is usual at this level but it was never going to be a fierce controversial battle anyway.

Scranometer only registered a mediocre 6 for the chips and curry. Too hot, too soggy. ๐Ÿฅต

It is a really nice ground and great statues of heroes of the game, Stanley Mathews and Gordon Banks.

The Lionesses next competitive game will be at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand but hopefully be a few friendlies before then. WSL starts this weekend and it's off to the AMEX for us.
