Crosstown Traffic

Newhaven FC v Eastbourne Borough Development Squad in pre-season friendly

The Dockers tooks on The Sports from the National League South

The game kicked off 45 minutes late due to traffic chaos in Newhaven caused by UK Power Networks digging up the pavement but closing the road then going home.

The Dockers were 2 down by the break but they dug in and came back to win 3-2 in a solid and organised display.  The Sports had some quality on display and some dodgy hair too, I'm talking to you manbun and aliceband but we're the losers on the night.  HA HA. Get your hair cut. ✂

POTM: Captain of the ferry, MS Seven Sisters, nice parking.

Thanks as ever to the excellent catering Ladies.

Just one more thing, we'll done Tranmere.

See you soon.

Suburban Housebound Blues

Horsham FC v Haywards Heath Town FC in a pre-season friendly

The Hornets travel to the Hanbury Park Stadium to take on the Blues.

It was nice to be outside watching football after 4 weeks of shouting at it on the telly.  There were a few good and lots of half(ish) chances and enough miles covered to give a few sore legs in the morning.  It finished goalless but could have gone either way with some set pieces coming close.

Lovely ground, friendly people and like the Blues kit.

POTM - Rodrigues was good to watch

Football's coming home.  Not sure it ever left.

Up the Hornets.

And Tranmere won 7-1 at Lairds

See you soon

The Dawes of Deception

Tranmere  v Morecambe in the League 2 playoff semi final at Prenton Park.

The Rovers host the Shrimps on the Green Green Grass at the Stadium of White.

In something that was halfway between an  impressive defensive display and a RADA audition, Morecambe came away 2-1 winners.  Peter Clarke scoring a bullet header for the first time in a while.  Special thanks go to Mendes-Gomez for holding Joe down to allow them to score.

An absolute masterclass in time wasting today from the Shrimps.  I hope FGR were watching and making notes for their upcoming publication of Football Shithousery of Dummies.

MOTM: Danny Lloyd for helping their physio carry his bag off the pitch. Such a kind hearted gesture.  ❤

How good did it feel to be back.  We go again on Sunday.  Let's hope it's Shrimp Gumbo for Sunday lunch.

Hope to see you at Wembley๐Ÿคž

Carry on Camping

Horsham FC v Chichester City in a friendly at the Camping World Stadium

The Hornets take on the Lilywhites, appearing here in green, in a friendly while the League season is suspended for Covid.

28 league places separate the clubs but it was City that opened the scoring. In a 10 goal thriller, the Hornets came out on top, 6-4. Good football played by both sides with lots of goals scored on the break A few turn overs as well. In the end, the difference between the 2 sides was the Hornets penalty (outside the box ref!) and a top draw save by the keeper.

I like the Horsham squad numbering, doubling up on no. 4's to confuse the ref.  Not that he needed much help being confused with enough indecision and U-turns to keep Kier Starmer busy at PMQ's for a while.
MOTM: Hornets keeper, Brad House, for that top corner save. ๐Ÿ‘

As ever, top class catering from Horsham FC, putting so called Elite clubs to shame.

Glad it was a bit warmer tonight, typical when I finally remember to wear my gloves.

If I don't see you before, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Rainbow Warriors

Brighton & Hove Albion WFC face Chelsea WFC at the Peoples Pension Community Stadium in the WSL

Back to the Broadfield Stadium today for the first time since Tranmere were beaten there by Crawley in May 2019.  Today was Brighton vs Chelsea.  It was a horrible wet and windy day., a bit different to last time.  Chelsea edged it by single goal in a game of few clear chances but Brighton keeper did well to keep it to a single goal.  0-1 to the Blues.

My first WSL game.  Really enjoyed it, the best live football so far this season.

POTM: Brighton's no 12 Denise O'Sullivan, the midfield tackling demon

Must have been the wind but after some wayward shooting, there are about 10 balls bouncing around Crawley that need sanitizing.

Glad I wore my new Christmas jumper and gloves.

The Scaranometer has gone home in disgust so there won't be a rating for the Veggie Chillie. Coffee was not coffee. Time to warm up with a hot punch and mince pies at home.

See you soon from somewhere non-league.

Rule of 6

Horsham FC v South Park FC in a friendly With the local leagues suspended until the new year, the Hornets played host to local rivals the Sparks.

On a freezing and misty night at the Hop Oast stadium with only the bravest fans out in the cold,  Horsham played some good football and showed their quality as they put six goals past South Park.  It was 4-0 at the break and finished 6-1.

Excellent goal filled night out under the lights.  Wonder how Tranmere got on in the Micky Mouse cup.

Top hot chocolate and good chips too.  Hope to be back soon.

Casual Encounter

Horsham FC vs Corinthian Casuals FC in the Isthmian Premier League

The Hornets host the Casuals at the Camping World Stadium, AKA the Hop Oast Stadium.

In the last match before Lockdown 2.0, the Hornets took the lead and were 2-0 up at the break in front of a socially distanced sell out crowd of 600.  The Casuals got a goal back and had the better of the second half but couldn't find the net again.

It was nice to see Uncle Dougie back from injury and in his usually No. 4.

Lovely ground, will certainly be back when we are allowed.

MOTM: Has to go to the stewards for keeping us all safe.

And Tranmere won 1-0 away at Harrogate Town and Newhaven won 4-1 away at Crawley Down.  So a hat trick of wins tonight.  Who gets to keep the sanitised ball?

Hope to see you soon.

Dirty Old Town

Newhaven v Eastbourne United Town in the Southern Combination Premiere League

The Dockers hosted the Townies at the Trafalgar Ground.  After an early chance to the Dockers, it turned in to a battle of half chances.  Newhaven went a goal up but conceded an own goal just before the final whistle.  Doh

Eastbourne's tactics of rolling around on the floor as if mortally wounded would put The Vegans to shame.  Wouldn't be surprised to see a few of them getting trials at the New Lawn.  The ref was impressed too.

Lovely night out and excellent hot chocolate.

Dockers unbeaten in 3.  Keep up the good work lads.

See you soon

Stay Safe.

Swerving the Checkatrade with you

Newhaven FC v Eastbourne United FC at the Trafalgar Ground in the Southern Combination Premiere League

The Dockers hosted the Whites in my first visit to my local team at Fort Road.

There wasn't much of a battle though with Newhaven 2 goals up in 4 minutes.  It was 4-0 at half time.  Eastbourne put up s better fight in the second half but the chances fell to Newhaven and it finished 5-0 under the lights.

Nice friendly ground in walking distance of home.  Felt sorry for the bloke who had to keep fetching the ball form the park next door. A good noise from the supporters in the skate park.  Really impressed by the football played at Step 5 especially Newhaven who have a plan and are organised enough to stick to it.

And Tranmere got a point for a draw with Port Vale but lost the penalty shoot out apparently.  Good job I swerved it.

See you next week.

Stay Safe.

Well, it's a marvelous night for a moonwalk

Horsham  away to South Park in a Pre-Season friendly

Back at the football for the first time in 179 days.  Never got to Wombledon as the season was ended and Tranmere demoted.  ๐Ÿคฌ
Uncle Dougie has transferred to Horsham for an undisclosed fee although it is reported that cans of Coke and Jaffa Cakes were involved.

So it's the Hornets away at the Sparks for a pre-season friendly at King George's Field in darkest Surrey.

There was lots of running without much product.  Both sides had chances with SP testing the Horsham trialist keeper a few times in the first half.  Dougie had a good chance but unusually for him, hit it wide.  Horsham were better in the second period and won it with a late corner.

A fun night out on an Autumn evening.

Was great to meet the Tranmere legend and current South Park player Baz Savage today although he is a bit taller than me.

Hope to see you somewhere soon.

Stay safe.

Wham, Bam, Thank You Stan

Tranmere Rovers away to Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium

Tranmere headed back down the M6 with all 3 points today having scored all 3 goals in the 2-1 win over Stanley on a  very windy day in Lancashire
Tranmere's goal was under seige at times but Rovers were victoious as the Clarke/Ellis barricade held firm. Vaughan scored before the break and Ellis made it 2. The only ball to beat Scotty was a header from Woodyard hitting the back of the net to spark a fruitless Stanley fightback in a tense last period. Nice of Accrington player Rodgers to go off early to put the kettle on for the lads.

Was great to meet the Tranmere legend Pepe Sands today.

Today's match was brought to you by the number 7 for reasons known to no-one other than the 4th Official.

POTM awarded by Wendy is Corey Blackett-Taylor.

Today I am supporting Balls to Cancer, fighting cancer with football.

Just 2 questions to finish, Who are dey? and which one is Stanley?

See you at Wombledon

The Dripping Pan-demic

Bognor Regis Town FC away to Lewes FC at The Dripping Pan

The Rocks take on the Rooks on a cold night in Lewes.

In a fixture that was postponed from Boxing Day (Brut and new gloves Day), the visitors took an early lead on 3 minutes and the score remained that way until the final whistle 92 minutes later.   A good end to end game with both sides having chances.

Really nice ground and hot drinks at half time, please take note Wycombe Wanderers.

MOTM  Doug Tuck - that pie didn't stand a chance.

The Handball That Rocks The Cradle

Tranmere Rovers away to Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park in League 1

On another cold day at Adams Park, The Rovers played the Chairboys for the 4th time this season.

Tranmere started well but soon reverted to long balls. All was level until just before the break when Wycombe elbowed, literally, their way into the lead.

Tranmere came out attacking from the the back after the break. Full marks to whoever gave Scotty 6 Red Bulls at half time.  Vaughan equalized in style for Tranmere scoring our first goal for about a millennium.  The scary big bloke scored to give Wycombe the lead.  They extended their lead from the penalty spot after Scotty flattened their player just outside the box.

We scored a goal⚽⚽⚽⚽

Shame about the result and the hot (not) chocolate at half time.

POTM: Scotty, a heroic performance in goal.

See you soon. Hopefully at Accrington.

Twisting My Mellon Man

Tranmere Rovers hosted Manchester Utd at Prenton Park in FA Cup 4th Round

Micky's Rovers hosted Ole's Red Devils to a sold out crowd at the Prenton Swamp.

Following the 3rd round comeback and heroics to reach the 4th round, Tranmere were soundly beaten by a strong Utd team. First half finished 5-0. Rovers limited the visitors to a single goal after the break and Morgan, Corey and party like a Rushian all came close to levelling the final 45 during which the tequila poured from the Kop.

POTM:  Jake Caprice for showing Jesse Lingard what real pace is.๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿข๐Ÿ‡

New bobble hat got an outing today along with JK statue badge.

The Langoustine and Winding Road

Tranmere away to Southend United at Roots Hall in League 1

The Rovers vs The Shrimpers.
Tranmere spent 90 minutes passing the ball to Southend who used it to try and hit a barn door but missing.

The game never got going and finished 0-0. It seems wearing white is now a bookable offence.  Maybe someone got a new whistle for Christmas.

MOTM Sammy the Shrimp๐Ÿฆ, only one to put the ball in the net.  Surprised he wasn't booked for handball. Do shimps have hands, is claw ball an offence?

Tried out my new Prenton Park South badge today.  Won't get there this year unless we make the FA Cup final.

Time for a Gamma Ray or 2.

Tiny VARncer

Tranmere Rovers FC away to Watford FC at Vicarage Road  in the FA Cup 3rd round

My third premier league ground to see the Rover vs the Hornets.

Rovers were 3 down after 35 minutes.  That scoreline remained despite the Hornets falling over and rolling around a lot.  All change when Connor's disallowed goal was re-instated by VAR, the greek god of armpits. Manny made it 3-2.  Mullin equalised from the penalty spot after VAR overuled the ref for a foul on Corey.  The sting in the tail was one of the hornets seeing red.

The replay will be at Prenton Swamp in about 10 days.

POTM:  Paul Mullin for standing calmly with the ball waiting to take the pen with chaos whirling all around him.  Was never going to miss.

A good crowd and great atmosphere. Got to meet a lady that is a Bognor fan from Prenton.  Fantastic hot chocolate too from Doug's Tuck Shop.  Got to meet Rocky Bear.
