(Living In The) Love Of The Common People

Newhaven FC away to Little Common FC at the Little Common Recreation Ground in the Southern Combined Premier League

The Dockers are away to the Green Lane Boys on a cold night at the Rec in Bexhill. Last time we saw Liitle Common play they were based at the Oval in Eastbourne but they moved back here about a year ago. The Dockers were here in the cup earlier in the season and left with a 5-1 win. Didn't think we were going to get going tonight as there were issues with a couple of the floodlights but they all lit up eventually. Pitch drains well as it slopes across instead of end to end. It's cold so hope it's a good game to help keep us warm.

The Fort Road Boys started with Callum Connor up front and Lukas as a no. 10. The Dockers were attacking from the start and the hosts keeper kept them in it early on with an amazing series of 3 saves in about 15 seconds to keep ball out of the net. The Dockers continued to threaten, even though the pitch surface wasn't the best. Been spoilt by the new 3G 🀣. Callum Conner got the Dockers of the mark on 20 ⚽. Charlie doubled the lead from the penalty spot on 43 ⚽. The Common player had already been booked and was expected to walk but the ref didn't punish the tackle other than the pen. 2-0 at the break.

Watching at the other end in the second half meant we got to watch Little Robbo up close and he had an amazing game again causing constant problems down the left. Big Robbo also causing problems on the right. Charlie has taken over free kick duties from Alfie and out of respect for Rogers Senior he put it over the bar. Callum Connor got his second on 61 ⚽. The GLB had some better spells towards the end as the Dockers pressed for a fourth. Bussy even had to make a save at one point. 'Little' was desperate to get a goal and was getting closer and closer but it never came. Highlight of the second half was the Common players telling us fans to go back to our council estate. Which we did taking 3 points with us. Fanks. Beats being called a bin-dipper from Birkenhead.

What a good game that was. Plenty of football, lots of niggles and a side serving of top banter. Glad that the game was on as a few were postponed locally due to frozen pitches. Also could have lost it to the floodlight issues. On the pitch there were some good performances too especially Little, Marcin and Charlie. The 3 points moves us up 1 place us top of the leagueπŸ”.

Scranometer was an unexpected 7 for the chesse sandwich πŸ₯ͺ. Hot chocolate only earned a 6 being more hot that chocolate.

POTM: Goes to Callum Connor for finding the net with a braceπŸ†⚽⚽.

Ref and team did well despite some fairly strong language from the hosts. Never heard anyone say to the ref "Are you mad" to a ref before. First time for everything. Sin bin could have been overflowing.

Back to our council estate to warm up now and hang our 3 points on the wall next to our 3 flying ducksπŸ¦†πŸ¦†πŸ¦†.

I Believe In Happy Endings

Brighton & Hove Albion Women at home to West Ham Women in the Group Stage of the Conti Cup at the Peoples Pension Stadium

The Seagulls host the Hammers ⚒ on a freezing night in Crawley. This is the last group game in the Conti Cup and Brighton need to win in 90 minutes to top the group to progress to the Quarter finals. If it's all square at 90 minutes there will be penalties but West ham will progress whatever the outcome of the shootout due to the weird Pizza Cup style points system. Let hope it's all over for that reason and that the temperature is about 0℃ πŸ₯Ά. We are avoiding getting cold pre-match by arriving just in time πŸ•’ for kick-off. Good planning and nothing at all to do with the closed roads and cancelled and delayed trains πŸš—πŸš‚πŸš‡πŸšŒπŸš‚πŸš—.

There were a few chances both ways but all poorly executed with the Hammers coming closest when they hit the post early on. Kayleigh Green looks to be in on goal but it goes wide. Both side were getting half chances but neither keeper was really tested. The West Ham no. 26 Asseyi dives and screams just outside the box and the ref falls for it and books Morse despite the total lack of contact. Nothing come from the free kick but the ref is wise to it when she tries again. Then she get booked herself for a foul. All level at the break.

No changes at half time and it starts as it finished with both side attacking but no end product. Asseyi draws a save from Walsh after getting clear. The Hammers bring on Brynjarsdottir. Love an Icelandic name. It finishes 0-0 at 90 minutes so the Seagulls are knocked out. There is still an opportunity to salvage some pride in the penalty shootout.

It starts at the North end where the crowd are. Albion up first and Symonds slot it home to take the lead. The rest goes like this. Megan saves, Vicky William scores, Megan saves, ref moves the whole thing to the other end of the pitch, Megan Fox scores and Megan saves again to win the shootout 3-0. Wow.

The temperature and poor pitch may have been an issue but the football wasn't spectacular. There were lots of turn overs largely from poor passing. Brighton were trying to press higher which the new manager Jens Scheuer wants but it's a new style of football to then and will take time to learn. They did try at times though. Good things to come.πŸ‘

POTM: Megan Walsh had a good game and was outstanding in the shootout. Clean sheet in a shootout 😻.

Ref was very inconsistant, perhaps she only had one contact lens in. If she had booked Asseyi for the obvious dive then she would have walked for the second yellow. Just saying.

Scranometer stepped up on cold night with a Vegan Cauliflower Pie πŸ₯§ that registered at 8.5. Hot chocolate was a disappointing 6 for lack of stirring.

The shootout win turned it from a dull disappointing match to an enjoyable one. Easily pleased.

Well that was very cold☃. Glad we had something to cheer about to stave off the frost bite at the end. See you back here on Sunday. Hope it's a bit warmer.

Do you have to let it Lingfield?

Newhaven FC at home to Lingfield FC at the Trafalgar Ground in the Southern Combined Premier League

The Dockers host the Lingers at Fort Road on a wet and windy afternoon. The rain has finally stopped so the game is atleast dry. This is our first game in the post Alfie era πŸ˜ΆπŸ˜ πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜€. The consolation is that Lukas is back 😍. Very different player but very good to see him in the side. Charlie is playing a more advanced roll. Off we go.

The Dockers ⚓were denied twice early on by the lines persons flag. Charlie on set piece duty found the head of Sidders to finally get a goal that counted on 32 ⚽. The crossbar and Jake helped the hosts get to the break at 1-0.

Two minutes after the restart, Big Robbo got clear and some nifty footwork put the Dockers 2 goals ahead ⚽. Awkward 3rd goal time. The Lingers no. 9 had been annoying the Dockers players and supporters with his diving and screaming as if they were trying to murder him when he finally got his way with a penalty. The ref registered an assist for his part in the goal. Lukas and Big combined again to kill off any fight back on 78 ⚽. Alfie who? The Lingers didn't give up and Jake 🚌 did well to maintain the lead to the final whistle 🏁.

Great performance by the boys against a good team with plenty of threat. Liking Charlie in his new roll. Bailie and Little working well on the left. Still in 2nd place.

POTM: "Big" had a great game and got 2 goals ⚽⚽ so gets the award πŸ†. Seems fair as "Little" got it last time.

Ref had a good first half but struggled to get anything right in the second. Thanks to the lines person at the Town End for the Dockers second goal as Robbo did look offside.

Nice to see the ferry in, something to watch during the dull bits.

WSL up next, weather permitting. Be there or be somewhere warm.

With a Little Help from My Friends

Newhaven FC away to Saltdean United FC in the Southern Combined Premier League at Hill Park

The Dockers ⚓️visit The Tigers 🐯 on a surprisingly sunny ☀ day in Brighton & Hove. After the torrential rain 🌧 of the last few days, it's amazing that the game is on at all. Thanks to all those who worked so hard to make it happen. It's a completely different Tigers team to last time we were here and the now have Marley Ambler who is very good. For the Dockers, "Big" is still out but "Little" Robbo is starting on the left wing. Not seen Tom Cooklin for a while but great to see him starting as he is very good. He's on the right wing opposite Little.

Dockers start well and it's all one way traffic especially down the wings. All the Tigers have is untargeted long balls. One long ball is intercepted by Jake but he gets his feet in a tangle and lands on his arse. Their no. 9 is clear on goal but puts it wide 🀣. Six minutes in and we have tried to give them a head start but they have declined the offer. The Dockers camp out in the opposing half and a goal mouth scuffle is ended with a shot from Alfie ⚽ on 19. A fantastic cross from Tom on 32 teases that it might creep into the top corner but is headed into the net by Little ⚽. The important third goal come the Dockers way via a corner and the head of Henry ⚽ on 39. 3-0 at the break. They could have done with that head start.

The second half saw the domination continue. Charlie got the 4th on 48 ⚽. Alfie got his second on 60 ⚽ having to crouch down to head in Little's cross and then celebrates with a forward roll. At 5-0 there are some changes made and youngster Alex (Patch) Patching is now up front. He gets his first senior goal on 80 ⚽. Dockers are awarded a free kick in injury time but who is going to step up to put it over the bar without Alfie on the pitch. Up steps Charlie who clearly hasn't read the script as a he puts it in the back on the net ⚽. 7-0 to the visitors. Great way to start the year.

Fantastic performance from the Dockers but it could have been double figures with a bit more composure in front of goal. Disappointed to see such a lack lustre performance from Marly, maybe he needs to come home.

POTM: Good performance all round. Jake redeemed himself late on but it goes to Little Robbo.

Ref had his worst game of the year so far. Hope he has better ones.

Hot chocolate was very nice from the machine with a lovely 9. Yum.

Great day out in the sun 😎. Three points heading back to the Eastern Hemisphere along the A259 πŸ‘. Can you hear the Tigers roar. Errr. No!

Happy new Year πŸ₯³πŸ“†. See you soon.
