(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peacehaven and Telscombe Losing

It's Havens Derby Day, Fort Road Edition. The Dockers are at home to the Tye on a sunny Boxing Day. It's sunny but chilly by the river. Big Robbo is in the stand 😱. Maybe he came back from Qatar over weight ⚖.

It's a derby so bound to be a bit scrappy and was at times.  Newhaven were settling down to keeping  the ball when a short back-pass left Jake stranded and Peacehaven scored in an empty net on 15.  Jack made up for his back-pass with a thumping header to level the score from an Alfie free kick. The Dockers continued to press. A long ball broke loose, the Tye keeper came miles out of his area but failed to clear the ball even when he tried using his hand. It bounced free to Alfie who launched it from about 40 yards. We all expected it to land in the skate park but it dipped into the top corner. Newhaven in the lead on 40 and carrying it into the break.

Peacehaven didn't offer much in second half other than a few corners. It worked ok for them as one of them wasn't cleared quickly and bounced around eventually finding the back of the net. 2-2 on 73. The Dockers remained under pressure but broke clear and a low cross was turned into the net at the near post by Alfie on 78. The hosts rode out some more pressure but defended well. It looked all over when Charlie charged up the pitch into the box only to pass the ball when he looked nailed on to score. It was quite a relief when the final whistle eventually went.

We won't comment on the ref 🤐. However, some of his decisions were right, some were wrong and the rest downright bizarre. Yellows for minor fouls and then nothing for professional fouls. A clear handball by the keeper 15 yards outside his box. A number of throws given the wrong way. Corners instead of goal kick. I'll shut up now.

POTM: Some great performances all round especially Ryan, Demas and Henry but it goes to Alfie for the goals and making the ref wish he had worn earplugs. 👂🔌

A day off for the Scranometer after yesterday's festivities but the hot chocolate was a steady 8.

A great team performance that rose above the scrappy game it could have become. And 3 points and bragging rights until next time.

All done for 2022. It's such a busy year with 51 games. Some great and some not so. Best game definately the Lionesses 8-0 demolition of Norway in the Euros at the AMEX. And worst would have to be Tranmere away to Walsall in Feb. A dire performance that started a run of dire performances that are still echoing through the club. Chelsea Women host Paris Saint-Germain Feminine in the last game of the UEFA Women's Champions League Group Stage at Stamford Bridge

The Blues take on Les Parisiennes at the Bridge. It's a home game but playing at the home of the Men's team. Should be a big crowd. Sitting the standing seats in the Upper Shed. Watching through the window as it's a UEFA game and standing is not allowed.

The blues start well but are patient and work to keep the ball. Our French favourite Diani is a handful but playing centrally where Millie and Kadiesha could manage her. She still managed a cheeky lob that needed to be tipped over the bar by Zecira. Chelsea kept working hard and Lauren could have had 3 before Sam Kerr got the first goal from an individual piece of work that saw it buried in the net from outside the box on 43 ⚽. 1-0 at the break.

The Visitors had made a couple of changes and were livelier at the restart. The Blues got back on top and some great teamwork in and around the box gave Lauren James brace on 55 and 62 ⚽⚽. Her second was set up by Fran who looked a mile off-side but the flag stayed down. Shame. The last 10 minutes was more end to end but Cheslea had multiple corners and some very near misses. Could have made it 4 or 5. Good to see Beth England come on for the last ten and she very nearly got on the score sheet.

Great result that the performance deserved against very tough opposition. A number of top internationals in the PSG side. Women's football is back in the middle of Jan.  Saying goodbye to the silver football until the Quarter Final here in March.

POTM: Great team performance but goes to Lauren James just being in the right place for the chances and goals and some good turnovers.

Ref didn't really have much to do. Only blew her whistle once in each half.

Scranometer registered 8.5 for the Vegan Chilli pie. Strange ordering system where you order remotely before going to the counter. Had to test it twice. 🥮🥮

A Game of Two Scarves

Newhaven FC away to Horsham FC in the Sussex Senior Cup 3rd round at the Camping World Stadium

The Dockers ⚓️ are away to the Hornets 🐝 for the first competitive meeting between the teams on a freezing night 🥶 in Sussex. The pitch is almost clear of snow ⛄️. It's a strong squad from the Dockers with Roman on in place of Jake and big Robbo on the bench. Dougie Tuck is on the bench for the Hornets. Saving him as a super sub? Strange match for us this as we are normally here supporting the Hornets. Tonight we are 100% Dockers.

Dockers were under pressure from the start and there were a few near misses. Hornets got a penalty on 13 and it was well taken by Tom Kavanagh. No stopping that. Uphill struggle gets steeper. Fantastic goal from Charlie Hester-Cook made it 2-0 on 33. Another pen from Tom on 38 made it 3-0 at the break.😢

Newhaven start better but are being out classed and can't break through. Charlie scores another stunner on 58 and Eddie Dsane finally gets his goal on 65. 5 down and it's freezing 🥶. Need a goal. Alfie gets free on 73 ⚽️ and calmly rounds the keeper to make it 5-1. The consolation goal arrives just in time to stave off frost bite. Alfie could have had a second in the dying seconds but put it wide.

Another cup 🏆 run over but an enjoyable one in which we beat the Hawks and visited the Hop Oast. We were outclassed on the night by a team 2 league above us. We played well and never sat back, always trying to play our attacking style. Just a shame the Dougie didn't play so we could give him a big BOOOO.

Officials officiated albeit, very badly at times.🤦‍

Scanometer's current favourite ground with it's Plant 🥬 Burger 🍔 and Chips 🍟 scoring a 9/10 👍. Again. The hot chocolate raised it's game to a 10! 👍👍 Fantastic result on such a cold night.

Arsenal Women v Juventus Femminile in the Champions League group stage at the Emirates Stadium

The Gooners take on Le Bianconere on a very cold night 🥶in North London. The away leg was a draw but Captain Leah is now back from injury. Still going to be a tough game though. Beth and Kim are still missing through injury.  Hope the squad can do the job tonight. 

The Reds started well but struggled to break down the last line of defence and when they did they were wasteful. Blackstenius hit the net but it was given offside. Nearly all of the play was in the Juve half and Miedema was on target with a volley froma Blackstenius cross. ⚽️. There were more chances but the dominance failed to deliver any more results.

The second half was much more even with both side having chances and Zinsberger finally being called on to make some saves. The was lots of applause when Lead went off and again when midfield pocket rocket Jordon came on. She caused problems down the left but and there were better chances but the second goal wouldn't come. The visitors threatened with a late freekick but it came nothing and it was a relief when the whistle went. Gunners still top of the group.

Was a tough job on such a cold night but it was a professional job on the night. Too many chances missed to be a good watch but shows the quality of the opposition.  Big game next week when Wendles Lyon visit.

POTM goes to Caitlin Foord for making so much of the good play happen.

Ref did well until she got grumpy in the last 10 and wouldn't give anything to the home side no matter how blatant.

Scranometer registered a 8.5 for the Vegan hotdog 🐶 with onions 🧅. Tasted better than it looked. Hot chocolate was just a disappointing 7. Not a great result for a Cadbury put water in the cup job. You had 1 job. Much better else where
