A Home Away From Home

Newhaven FC face AFC Varndeanians in the relocated away meeting between the sides in the SCFL at The Trafalgar Ground

The Dockers ⚓️ face the V's at home in a tie that was re-scheduled from Monday due to the Queen's funeral 🙏 (God bless you Ma'am) and then moved from the Withdean to Fort Road  for reasons unknown.🤷‍♂️

The Dockers sit 2nd 🥈 in the league and the visitors are yet to get going in 16th. The Fort Road boys are on a roll, lets hope that continues. It certainly did and they were composed yet aggressive from the start and a brace on 10 ⚽️ and  13 ⚽️ from Lukas set the tone for the night. Quality goals they were too. After a number of misfires, Alfie finally got his goal on 26 ⚽️ and Jack Meeres made it 4 on 39 ⚽️ to go in 4-0 up at the break. Don't think there is much coming back from that.

The V's were a bit more on the front foot after the restart but the Dockers defence was more than a match. The host were camped out in the other half for long periods and Tom Underwood made it 5 on 62 ⚽️. Demas Ramsis who was a nuisance or a delight to watch depending on your perspective got his goal on 68 ⚽️. Big Robbo came on with about 10 to go and made his make making it 7 on 84 ⚽️. 7-0 and another clean sheet put the Fort Road Boys on top of the league. not bad for a team that lost the first 2 games.

Really fantastic performance today. Everything just clicked and it was a joy to watch. 3 points and a big confidence boost with the next 2 games at home. Shame we won't be there for those.

Officials officiated. 🤷‍♂️👏

POTM: Lukas for 2 quality goals that set the tone so early into the match. Almost felt sorry for them at times.

Scranometer needed to be re-calibrated due to the change of venue. Having planned to have a meal in the carvery at the Withdean, it was the Fort Road Cheesy Chips 🍟 🧀 that registered a 7/10 tonight. Hot chocolate was the usual 8/10.

Off on our own international break now. Back in October

Stand By Mead

Brighton & Hove Albion Women away to Arsenal Women at Meadow Park in the first game of the delayed start to the WSL season

Seagulls face the Gunners at the home of Boreham Wood. It was always going to be a tough game for the visitors as the they go to the home of the Gooners who missed out on the WSL tile last season by a single point. Especially as they have a lot of new faces after some departures over the summer. Never thought we would be back at Boreham Wood after that day at Wembley when we escaped the National League but here we are. And it'd just a little bit warmer this time (no snow).

It started badly when Kullberg was sent off    👉 after just 7 minutes for tripping Swedish International Blackstenius about 2mm outside the box. Offside? Maybe but it was clearly going to be a long night for us and the Seagulls. They battled and defended but Scottish International Kim Little broke through the barricades to score on 27 ⚽. Time seemed to slow down as half time approached but we held on to the single goal deficit at the break. Phew!

The second half started on the front foot with the Seagulls best chance and only shot on target but it was well saved by Norwegian International Zinsberger. Blackstenius got her goal a couple of minutes later ⚽. The theme of international players getting goals continued when the Euros Best Player decided it was her turn and the Beth Mead revenge tour started it's WSL episode, killing the game off completely with goals on 63 ⚽, and 83 ⚽. The Seagulls crossbar had a good night, keeping out what would have been few more goals. It could have been worse against a team of some of Europe's top players and Hope and the ladies should be proud of their efforts tonight. There will be better games. 🤞

Out of respect for the Queen, we held a minutes silence, sang the God Save The King and then in solidarity with those queuing to paying their respects in London, we queued for over an hour to get food. Scranometer was a potential 9/10 for a lovely egg 🍳🍳 burger 🍔 and chips but disqualified ❌ by the length of the queue. Oops. 😳

Officials did generally well but ruined the game with sending off Kullburg when Blackstinius had been off-side. The Seagulls didn't let their heads drop but an already difficult game suddenly became mission impossible.

POTM: VW20. Our rock at the back, Vicky Williams who seemed to be everywhere tackling here and blocking there.

Next up, AFC Varndean at the Withdean before we go on a short international break.

See you soon

Newhaven FC face Little Common FC at the Trafalgar ground in the Southern Combined Premiere League

Back to the league action as the Dockers take on the Green Hill Boys just a week after beating them 5-1 in the Peter Bentley Cup 🏆away at the newly revamped Little Common Recreation Ground in Bexhill while we were up in Stoke.

Out of respect for Her Majesty The Queen, the fixture at the weekend was postponed and there was a minutes silence before kick-off . I voted for King Julien to get the gig but not sure that worked out. 👑

The Dockers started how they left off last week as big Robbo found the back of the net in the first minute. Here we go again we thought, on for a hat full. We weren't surprised when Jack Meeres headed home on 11 minutes. The Dockers seemed to settle down a bit and visitors upped their efforts and it turned in to quite a battle. There were a few casualties with Alfie being the first and Demas also going off injured.

The score was unchanged at the break and remained that way until the hour mark when the Green Men (seen here in light blue) got a reward for their efforts. Newhaven hung on to their one goal lead and even had a few very good chances themselves and with a bit of luck, held on for the win. Not their best display but 3 points in the bag. Needed to have been more ruthless while dominant early on to kill the game off and ensure any consolation is just that. It's the important 3rd goal issue again.

POTM: Alfie had a great game until subbed off for injury and his physical presence was sorely missed. Hope he's not out for long.

Also goodbye, thanks and good luck to Marley who has left us for Saltdean, he will certainly improve that team with that strength and pace. Hope the lumps in the pitch have levelled out a bit ⛰.

No sign of the ferry ⛴. Not happy 😢. Have written a formal complaint to DFDS 📝.

Hot chocolate was good scoring an 8.5/10 tonight. Lots of sugar and no sludge.🤎

See you soon

Subs Be Good To Me

England Women v Luxembourg Women in a World Qualifier at Stoke's Bet365 Stadium

The Lionesses face the Luxembourg Women at the home of the Potters in their last World Cup 🏆 Qualifying game. England have qualified after beating Austria at the weekend but Luxembourg can't now qualify. So, nothing to play for except pride and the Lionesses record of not conceding a single goal in qualification. These teams have only met once before and that was the reverse fixture which England won 10-0. What could go wrong?

Nothing as it happens. Serena's Lionesses, in their orange away kit tonight, were as ruthless as usual. Could have scored in the second minute but we had to wait until the 11th minute when a Georgia ⚽️ penalty hit the back of the net the after Russo was felled in the box. Russo ⚽️ got one herself on 17, Georgia ⚽️made it a brace on 26. Two quick goals from Rachel Daly ⚽️and Beth Mead⚽️, 38 and 39 took it to 5-0 at the break. We were glad of the breather after all that celebrating.

Some changes for the second half with Millie taking the arm band from Leah. Katie Zelem and our favourite, England on for England. England ⚽️scored for England after 2 minutes, Nikita⚽️ hit the net on 59 and Ella Eyelashes ⚽️made it 8 with a very cheeky penalty. It looked like that was it as it went a bit flat but 2 goals at the death from Lauren,⚽️ 90, and England⚽️, 90+2 made it a nice round 10 again. I was hard on Luxembourg who did nothing wrong and battled and tackled right to the final whistle but the quality of the Lionesses was too much for them. They should be proud of their performance in spite of the result.

Officials were good as is usual at this level but it was never going to be a fierce controversial battle anyway.

Scranometer only registered a mediocre 6 for the chips and curry. Too hot, too soggy. 🥵

It is a really nice ground and great statues of heroes of the game, Stanley Mathews and Gordon Banks.

The Lionesses next competitive game will be at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand but hopefully be a few friendlies before then. WSL starts this weekend and it's off to the AMEX for us.

See you there
