One Step Beyond

Newhaven FC away to Lancing FC in the Isthmian League Playoff at Lancing

The Dockers of Step 5 face The Lancers of Step 4 at Culver Road in a battle for Lancing's place in Step 4.  Saltdean being ineligible for promotion pushed the Dockers into a playoff position.  Nice day for it with a big crowd in the Sussex sunshine.

It was a tough first half for the visitors who were kept in it by some great saves from Bussy in goal.  The deadlock was broken by Robbo early in the second half only to concede a quick equaliser.  The hosts took the lead and kept it. Newhaven thought they had levelled it only for the goal to be ruled offside.

So promotion hopes are over and good luck to the Lancers who are a good side.

Ref did good job except for the strange drop ball after it went out for a corner for the reds.  We're there 2 lines people, hard to tell.

POTM: Lee Robbo Robinson gave them a run for their money and scored that goal.

Charlie hobbled off with a nasty injury.  Hope he is fit for work at the  chocolate  🍫 factory on Tuesday.

Hard luck to the boys, came so close to taking the club higher than ever before.  Back to fight again next year but have a cup final to play first if they can find a venue.

Too hot for hot chocolate today.

See you somewhere for the Peter Bentley final.

Blood, Sweat and Jeers

Tranmere Rovers away to Stevenage Borough at the Lamex Stadium in League 2

The Rovers face the Boro' and it's just a bit cooler than last time we came to Hertfordshire.   It's windy too, hope it doesn't impact the play. Hat and scarf weather for me.  🧣🧒

Tranmere were in yellow today and the yellow matched their lacked courage on the pitch.  Stevenage needed 3 points to guarantee EFL football next season and succeeded with a goal in each half.   The first from a penalty that has ridiculous for a hand ball. There was very little response from the visitors.  We had a great chance late on for Nicky Maynard but he couldn't stay on his feet and Kane Hemmings' follow up shot is due to make touchdown on the moon next Tuesday.

Who would have thought that we would be rubbish away from home?  Not me 😢

There were a lot of head injuries today and a couple of the yellows had to change shirts.  Must grow them with big elbows up here . Hope Lee and Nicky are OK.

POTM: Nicky Maynard for that Benny Hill moment in the box.

Hot chocolate was an average 6 but chips were excellent.  🍟

Met the cheeky monkey Pepe again.  🦧

Well done to Horsham and Newhaven who both won their final league fixtures.

We might be finished for the season now.  See you sometime somewhere,

It's Lard To Say Goodbye

Horsham FC at home to Worthing FC at the Camping World Stadium in the Isthmian Premier League

The Hornets 🐝 host the Mackerel Men and recently crowned  league champions  in the last home game of the season. It was packed at the Hop Oast with a record league crowd in 1846.

The visitors took an early lead during a dominant spell but had a man sent off for a second yellow and the Hornets equalised just before the break.  They were dominant throughout the 2nd half, camping out the the reds half.  It finished 3 -1 to the boys in yellow and green.  Could easily have scored a few more.  Kippers for tea?

Excellent way to end a busy day.  Shout out to the Lardy Army who kept the entertainment going and silenced the larger number of Rebels who kept singing about Rocks!  🎡 Start spreading the lard..

POTM:  Lee Harding, ran them ragged on the right and that goal.  And congrats on being voted Player of the Season.

Big congratulations to Worthing who are Isthmian League champions πŸ†and headed to the National League South next season.  Good luck, hope it goes well. And congratulations on the 100 points in a season... .Oh....😐

No sign of Uncle Dougie in the squad, not in the food queue either.  Don't know where else to look for him.  Hope he's OK, probably getting his hair done.  Never mind, I'll eat my own Jaffa cakes.

Hot chocolate a solid 8.  Top scan too as the food here is some of the best going.

Won't be back for a while now as the season starts in mid August.

See you at Steeeeevenage

Tye Eggspectations

Newhaven FC away to Peacehaven and Telscombe FC at the Sports Park in SCFL Premier League

The Dockers face the Tye on a sunny Easter Monday morning hoping to win bragging rights in the Havens derby after a lively draw at Fort Road  back in January.

The Dockers took the lead but were pegged back by the Tye who then went in front.  It felt a bit like a win when the last minute equaliser went in.  The visitors peppered the hosts goal at times but there were some good blocks and  the keeper made a couple of crucial top corner saves.

It was a feisty match and there will be a few sore ankles this morning.  The ref failed to keep a lid on some of  it and there was a fair amount of injury time after a nasty tackle late on.  Nice morning out in the sun.  Might take earplugs next time as the Newhaven crowd a bit lairy.

So it's honours shared again.  Back here on Boxing Day to try again.

POTM: Henry Watson for the goals

Hot chocolate a very good 9/10.

See you at Horsham in a couple of hours.

The Lions Weep Tonight

Newhaven FC face Pagham FC at The Birchwood Ground in the Semi-Final of the Peter Bentley Cup

The Dockers face the Lions for the chance to play Marigolds in the final.

First time at the Shooting Field and first time watching the Dockers on a 3G pitch.  Should suit them well.  Nice stadium and the home of Steyning Town FC.  Why the Shooting Field?

Alfie opened the scoring on 10 minutes and he doubled the lead just before the break.⚽   It was a fiesty half with a couple of yellows and little Robbo being helped off the pitch with an injury.

The Lions roared a bit loader in the second half and pulled it back to 2-2 on the hour.  Newhaven took the lead again 5 minutes later after Lukas slotted home a penalty awarded for bringing down in Robbo in the box.  It was end to end and was all even with 5 to go so straight to penalties.  How exciting.

Dockers won the shoot out ✅✅✅✅✅-✅✅❌✅✅ without a single miss.   Quality penalties with no nerves on display.  Well in boys.  On to the final, probably at Hassocks from the man ITK.

No mention of the ref, surely not.  Not much to say really, got a few calls wrong for both teams and lost control for a while but did ok for a change.  Some brave off-side calls that could easily have been given with Robbo's pace.

What was up with their number 3 kicking off after the pens.  You lost, time to move on as they say.

POTM:  Alfie (again) for the all round play and the goals.

Hot chocolate was a fantastic 9.5/10, would have been 10 if a bit hotter.  πŸ§‰

Thanks to the home of the Barrowmen for their hospitality and selling club badges at the bar.  And congratulations to the Dockers after the disappointment of last week.

See you soon.
