Dirty Salty Money

Newhaven FC away to Saltdean United FC at Hill Park in the the RUR Cup semi-final

The Dockers are up against the Tigers on a damp and cold Sussex night.  Second and third in the league meet with the prize of appearance in the final.  Having seen the 2nd round away to Little common back in November, Newhaven have made it to the semi-final.

The depleted Dockers team struggled to get into any rhythm and there was very little attacking football from either side.  A clear handball for a penalty was ignored.  The Tigers made a break from a lucky bounce and scored from their first shot on target.  😠  The visitors best chance was lost due a ridiculous offside call.  Defenders on the line are still defenders.

Newhaven gained a bit more control after the break and camped out in the Saldean half for long periods but the ball always seemed to bounce to a red shirt.  They kept the pressure on and big Robbo blazed the best chance of the game over the bar in the last minute.  So this cup run comes to an end.  Another semi next Tuesday.  Hope that goes better.

Rumours that the ball was bouncing so badly due to large sums of money buried under the pitch have yet to be disproved.  πŸ’°

Catering was excellent and hot chocolate a solid 8/10.

POTM:  Lots of individual good performances but it goes to Woody in goal for helping out at the last minute.

It's cold and wet and time to go home.

See you soon

It's a No, Away in Essex

Tranmere Rovers away to Colchester United at the Community Stadium in League 2

The Rovers face the "U"s on a sunny spring day in Essex.  What could go wrong?

The sunshine faded quickly as did the performance.   Merrie came in for Lee O'Connor who is on international duty.  The usual rubbish away from home with only a couple of good chances.   Peter Clarke looked like he wanted to fight the ref in the carpark. Would have been more fun than the football.

Colchester scored from their only shot in the 95th minute .  Not saying the ball went out of play but it had to pay the Dart Charge.  Another loss on the road for the travel sick Rovers.

POTM:  Chris Merrie running the mid field on the odd occasion the ball wasn't lumped over his head for Nevitt to be flagged offside.

See you somewhere soon.

Nate's Tranmere take on Sands United Ipswich at Colchester Rugby Club

Adam Siddorn managed Nates Super White Heroes in a charity match in memory of Nate Gidman.

With Phil Gidman wearing the no 5, Tranmere took an early lead and stayed ahead to lead 5-4 at the break.  There were some tired legs in the 2nd half but there were eventually some more goals and Tranmere winning 7-5 with Phil scoring the 6th to huge celebrations.

Even got a little fist pump from Sid at the end.

A great result but more importantly a fantastic event to celebrate Tranmere's little hero Nate.

Fantastic weather for it too.

POTM: Phil for the goal and raw emotion of the celebration.    Sid gets an honourable mention as the best dressed manager in football.

Ref was great and like his Ukraine tribute with yellow and blue shirts.  Top man.

See you this afternoon for some less good football. Probably.

Gander Green Giants

Tranmere Rovers away to Sutton United at the VBS Community Stadium in League 2

Rovers face the 'U's at a sunny Gander Green Lane for the first time outside the bin league. And on a grass pitch for the first time too.

Tranmere struggled in the first 45 and conceded after 15 minutes of header ping pong. Playing long balls playing right into the hands (heads) of Suttons 7ft tall defenders worked as well as it usually does. Doh 🀦

Foley came on at the break. Rovers started playing on the floor and laid siege to the Sutton goal. Josh (Chesney, the one and only) Hawkes scored the equaliser.  We could have scored a few more but it finished with a point each. Big improvement on the last 3 away loses. Up the +ve point travelling whites.

Ref was the usual rubbish πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š but still better than the lino at our end who was completely gormless 🀑. Think he only had one working arm which changed at half time.

POTM: Could have gone to MacDonald (Calum, not the restaurant and its lukewarm food πŸ”πŸŸ☕🀨), O'Connor or Warrington. MacDonald it is for getting up and down and some great clearances.

Hot chocolate was a solid 8/10. Nice one.

My first time in Sutton so visited the world's oldest bicycle shop which opened in 1860.

Nice new stand they put us in to soak up the spring sunshine 🌞. Be nice when its finished and there is one big away stand.

Well that's it for another week.   See you at Colchester. Bring a coat.

Twenty Four Hours From Towcester

Tranmere Rovers away to Northampton Town at Sixfields in League 2

Rovers face the Cobblers in a 2nd v 3rd clash on the Cobblers 125th Birthday.  Happy Birthday.  πŸŽ‚πŸ₯³   Is it a party without cake, no cheese or wine either.  VAR decision-Not party.

Loved the Rovers kit as a tribute to the brave people of Ukraine πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦

Whoever forgot to put the heating on, thanks, it was freezing.   ❄

It wasn't just the opponents that were Cobblers.  Shocking defending from 2 set pieces and the Rovers are 2 down at the break.  A few left for the bar again.  🍺🍺

Kane Hemmings had a goal disallowed 🚫. Boo, "the referees a Russian".

We conceded a 3rd from a fast break.  Micky made the changes and Rovers came alive getting 2 goals back with aggressive attacking play.  Where did that come from.  The 3rd wouldn't come and we have dropped to 6th.  ☹

POTM:  Paul Glatzel, made a huge difference when he came on.

Referee is currently being investigated for donations to the Tory party.  πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊπŸ’°

Hot chocolate:  The bit that I wasn't wearing was OK.  A solid 8/10.

Got to go to Silverstone on the way. What a legendary place and amazing museum.

Wearing new Thomas badge today πŸš‚ #forNate

See you soon. Hopefully somewhere a bit warmer.
