Twenty 3 is the Magic Number

Newhaven FC U23 v  Hastings FC U23 in the Sussex Under 23s Challenge Cup Final at Sussex FA Headquarters

On a cold night at Culver Road and it was a miserable night for the young Dockers.  The Haystacks were too strong for them and took an early lead. They consolidated it quickly and were 3 up at the break.  Aaron was shown a straight red for a tackle in the box and the penalty made it 5-0.

It was noticeable how much colder it gets when you are losing.  Max Vardy gave us a much needed chance to warm up when he put the ball in the "U"s net for the first time so it finished 5-1.

Well done to Kieron for playing ALL under 23s and not exploiting the rules that allow senior players to be included in the squad.  Must be frustrating when you have worked hard for your place only to then lose it to a senior player for a big game.  Just sayin!   And Keiron's Mum and Dad were lovely.  Hope he wasn't too grumpy afterwards.

We are waiting for Sue Gray's report into the standard of the refereeing but we will be reporting it to the Police anyway.  🚓

POTM:  Max Vardy for giving us something to celebrate just as frostbite was about to kick in.☃️

Thanks for the hot chocolate, was needed.  ☕

See you somewhere soon.

You Shall Not Pass

Tranmere Rovers away to Crawley Town FC in League 2 at the People's Pension Stadium

We are back at the Broadfield Stadium again to see the Rovers face the Red Devils.

King Micky's Rovers headed the 262 miles back to Birkenhead with all 3 points.
It was a scrappy first half which improved after the break.  The hosts had few chances and the visitors had some good attacking spells.  The only goal came from a Jay Spearing free kick that deflected in off a defender. They all count the same however they go in.

Another clean sheet for the whites making it 10 in a row unbeaten.
Good crowd so far from home and good noise.

It was nice to see the legendary Pepe Sands again.

POTM: Sam Foley was awesome playing out of position.

Another referee failed the "Smug Tory" test and tried to play on for draw. Didn't succeed this time.  😛

See you soon

If I Could Turn Back Tye(m)

Newhaven FC play Peacehaven and Telscombe FC in the Southern Combined League Premiere Division at the Trafalgar Ground

It's finally derby day, postponed from Boxing Day, and the Dockers host The Tye on a cold night at Fort Road.
Well that was exciting. 👀
Goals at 2, 4 and 8 minutes saw the visitors leading 2-1.   It stayed that way until Lucas levelled the scored on 57.  It looked like a victory for the hosts when Alfie hit the target from Aaron's cross with 3 minutes of the 90 left.  But  👀 Captain Pedantic gave a penalty well into  injury time and it finished 3-3.

Saltdean played Uncle Dougie's Hornets in the cup so a point moved Newhaven up to 2nd.

POTM:  Lucas involved in everything as ever and a goal.

Captain Pedantic was far from the worst ref at this level.  Reined in the players from the off to stop them hurting each other.  Shame he let it play on until the equaliser, made it feel like a loss.  Got put back in the rucksack before I could call him a "Smug Tory" as he walked past.

It was good to be back at Fort Rd even though it felt like 2 points lost.

See you at Crawley 🐞

Once, Twice, Three Times a Maybe

Horsham FC away to Worthing FC at the Crucial Environmental Stadium

The Hornets visit the Mackerel Men at Woodside Road on New Year's Day 2022.

A big crowd watched the first game of the year and it really was a game of 2 halves.

Horsham were a goal up at the break and what a goal it was. Take a bow Eddie Dsane. Can't wait to see that on MOTD tonight. Oh..

Dougie almost made it 2-0 as he lobbed the keeper from the half way line but it went just wide.  Unlike him to miss the target.  #sliceitliketuck

Three second half penalties for Worthing decided the game.

The ref gets an assist for the first 2 penalties and a special medal for trying to send off the wrong player.  He eventually got the right player if not the right punishment and Hornets were down to 10 men.

There were late chances for Horsham but nothing hit the mark.  Disappointing result but nice to be out of the house.

POTM:  Dsane for his stunning goal.

Catering was much improved from my last visit.  Almost as good as Bognor.

Not expecting to be back here in the near future as Worthing look like they are heading for the National League next season.  Good luck.

Happy New Year 🥳

See you soon
