Everybody Hursts (sometimes)

Newhaven FC visited Billingshurst FC in the 1st round of the Sussex Challenge Cup

After last weeks goalfest at Loxwood, the Dockers made a number of changes for the visit to Victoria Fields to take on the Hurst from the League below.

In a scrappy first half the Dockers struggled to get into their stride with the hard fighting Hurst.  They went 2 goals ahead with a Rogers brothers brace.  Lack of concentration led to 2 goals for the host and it was 2-2 at the break.

The second half saw better play at times but with no result.  In the 90th minute,  a Hurst break was end when Buss 🚌 brought down the man and their no. 9 Archie put in away.  There was enough added time for the Dockers level up but it wasn't their night tonight.

Catering was a little limited but nice friendly club.

POTM:  Honourable mention goes to Henry for the Dockers whose surging runs from defence were the highlight of a lacklustre performance but the Hursts no.9 Archie was exciting to watch so gets the award. Git!
Last comment: What was the lino on our side seeing?  Offside from a free kick when there was a defender on the line. 🤡 Help. If anyone has a spare fortnight to explain the offside rules to me that would be lovely. Bring Tequila 🤪

Good luck to Billingshurst in the next round.

See you soon.

Glove The Way You Lie

Newhaven FC at home to Little-Ampton FC.

The Dockers played host at the Trafalgar Ground to league leaders LA aka the Marigolds.  The hosts were hoping to make it 4 wins in a row but that looked unlikely as the visitors were 2 goals up after 7, yes seven, minutes.  Oops.

After that it all got a bit strange.  Unknown to everyone else, the ref had just teleported in from the Twilight Zone where the rules appear to be a little bit different.  It kept everyone on their toes and, bless him, he can't help it if  yellow  is his favourite colour.

The Dockers got back into their usual stride eventually and found themselves leading 3-2 with goals from Jallow, Franzen-Jones and Watson.  To celebrate they passed back to a Marigold who was about 10 yards offside.  3-3.  Doh!

A point gained against tough opposition or 2 points lost to a mistake.  Don't care, it was exciting stuff.

And the ferry arrived on time.  Hooray!

A special mention has to go to the LA no. 11 who bravely saved a shot with no gloves on.  Bet that made his hands sting a bit.

One question, would if be a local derby if LA FC played LA Galaxy?

POTM:  Newhaven manager, for unrewarded persistence in explaining the actual rules to the ref.

Back soon hopefully
