It's iNevittable

Tranmere Rovers away to Exeter City at St James Park in League 2

Rovers travelled south to Devon to take on the Grecians on a wet December day.

Rovers dominated much of the game as they seemed to be the only team able to stay on their feet on the wet pitch. There was no need to fowl Matt Jay as he managed to consistently fall over on his own. "Shit boots, can't stand" sang Wookie. An early goal from Elliott Nevitt put the Rovers ahead. Elliott and Charlie Jolley led Disco Ray in a merry dance. Great performance all round. Smart move by Callumanum Mcmacmanaman getting a straight red in injury time to ensure he has Christmas off. Cheeky git!

POTM: Elliott Nevitt for his goal and outstanding performance in ET. Glad he gave up his day job fitting carpets

A new twist in the off-side rule is that it's only implemented at one end if the lino at the other end can't keep up due to a medical condition.

Happy Rainbow Laces day ๐ŸŒˆ

Hope to see you on Boxing Day.

Eaton Rifles

Newhaven FC away to Little Common FC in the 2nd Round of the RUR (Royal Ulster Rifles) Cup at the Oval in Eastbourne

Little Common ground sharing with Eastbourne United until their ground updates are finished so the Dockers headed to Eastbourne on a cold Tuesday night to take the the Green Lane Boys on the lumpy pitch at the Oval.

Big Robbo put the blue clad Dockers in front on 3 minutes and Seb scored the second to make it 2-0 at the break.

Robbo scored his second then James strike deflected of the ref, who was standing in the way again, to loop over the keeper into the net for the 4th.  Alfie had a late penalty saved to keep the scored to 4-0.  A 3rd round tie at home to Peacehaven is the prize.

It was a feisty game which the pitch didn't help and a few players went off injured, not helped by the ref who offered the players no protection from overzealous challenges.

Nice of the ref to come out on a cold night the day before he gets his cataracts done.    Gave us plenty of entertainment to keep us warm.  Nice that he got some autographs in his book.

POTM:  Ken, the lino on our side, he stayed in good humour through the barrage of banter,  even got a couple of decisions correct.

Thanks for the hospitality,  hope you get back to your home soon.

See you soon.

Swerving the EFL with You (EP)

Newhaven FC hosted East Preston FC at Fort Road in the Southern Combined Premier League

Another league win for the Dockers.  EP put up a good fight and defended well but we're short of ideas in the final 3rd.  The Dockers were energetic and organised .  They were a goal up at the break thanks to Alfie.  Hope he's OK after he hobbled off late on.  2 goals in 5 minutes left them defending the lead for last 15.  3-0 Newhaven.  Still in 3rd.

No jokes about the officials today. Our lino was a joke all by himself.

POTM: Alfie Alf Rogers again.  So strong tracking back and winning back the ball as well as the goal.  Although Lee Robbo Robinson came close.

The ferry was a no-show, very disappointed.

Sounds like Tranmere completed a good fight back.   2 up front as well.  Congrats boys, sorry I couldn't be there.

See you soon

It's a Rat Trap Baby

Tranmere Rovers away to Crawley Town at the People's Pension Stadium in the 1st round of the FA Cup

My 50th live match was the The Boomtown Rats sponsored Red Devils hosting league 2 rivals Rovers at the Broadfield Stadium.

It was a scrappy bad tempered game with few clear cut chances that had replay written all over it. Calumanum Mcmanamanaman broke the deadlock when he was first to the ball after his header was saved. It remained that way despite the Reds throwing everything thing at it and the Rovers desperately defending. It was very squeaky bum time.  Glad it's all over.

And what's up with the catering? It was actually nice.  Big improvement, we'll done.

Through to the second round. Wonder who we will get in the draw.

POTM: Nathaniel Knight-Percival came into the team and was heading and kicking everything. Great to watch.

Well done to Dougie and the Hornets for doing themselves proud. Looked like the Lardy Army enjoyed themselves. Hope to see you soon.

Newhaven away at Seaford up next.

What's it all about, Alfie

Newhaven FC at home to Crawley Down Gatwick FC in the Southern Combined Premier league at the Trafalgar Ground

The proper football weather arrived at Fort Road in time for The Dockers to host The Anvil on a cold Tuesday night by the River Ouse.

Newhaven started on the front foot with their usual high tempo, well disciplined style.  They went a goal up but we're caught on the break to level the score. They dug in against the Anvil and hammered in 4 more to run out clear winners.  Alfie scored another hatrick.  Robbie should have had one too but it was disallowed for offside.

Dockers up to 3rd in the League. ⬆️

POTM:  Alfie for the hatrick but everyone had a good game.

Catering was excellent as ever.

Ref was the most pedantic anyone has ever been about about the precise location where free kicks and throw-ins were taken.  No quick free kicks with this guy in charge.  Although he did try to get a freekick for offside taken from the wrong half.  Looks like I still need that Offside rule training. Bring extra Tequila.

FA Cup 1st round with Tranmere up next.
Good luck to the Hornets at Carlise on Saturday
See you soon.

Everybody Hursts (sometimes)

Newhaven FC visited Billingshurst FC in the 1st round of the Sussex Challenge Cup

After last weeks goalfest at Loxwood, the Dockers made a number of changes for the visit to Victoria Fields to take on the Hurst from the League below.

In a scrappy first half the Dockers struggled to get into their stride with the hard fighting Hurst.  They went 2 goals ahead with a Rogers brothers brace.  Lack of concentration led to 2 goals for the host and it was 2-2 at the break.

The second half saw better play at times but with no result.  In the 90th minute,  a Hurst break was end when Buss ๐ŸšŒ brought down the man and their no. 9 Archie put in away.  There was enough added time for the Dockers level up but it wasn't their night tonight.

Catering was a little limited but nice friendly club.

POTM:  Honourable mention goes to Henry for the Dockers whose surging runs from defence were the highlight of a lacklustre performance but the Hursts no.9 Archie was exciting to watch so gets the award. Git!
Last comment: What was the lino on our side seeing?  Offside from a free kick when there was a defender on the line. ๐Ÿคก Help. If anyone has a spare fortnight to explain the offside rules to me that would be lovely. Bring Tequila ๐Ÿคช

Good luck to Billingshurst in the next round.

See you soon.

Glove The Way You Lie

Newhaven FC at home to Little-Ampton FC.

The Dockers played host at the Trafalgar Ground to league leaders LA aka the Marigolds.  The hosts were hoping to make it 4 wins in a row but that looked unlikely as the visitors were 2 goals up after 7, yes seven, minutes.  Oops.

After that it all got a bit strange.  Unknown to everyone else, the ref had just teleported in from the Twilight Zone where the rules appear to be a little bit different.  It kept everyone on their toes and, bless him, he can't help it if  yellow  is his favourite colour.

The Dockers got back into their usual stride eventually and found themselves leading 3-2 with goals from Jallow, Franzen-Jones and Watson.  To celebrate they passed back to a Marigold who was about 10 yards offside.  3-3.  Doh!

A point gained against tough opposition or 2 points lost to a mistake.  Don't care, it was exciting stuff.

And the ferry arrived on time.  Hooray!

A special mention has to go to the LA no. 11 who bravely saved a shot with no gloves on.  Bet that made his hands sting a bit.

One question, would if be a local derby if LA FC played LA Galaxy?

POTM:  Newhaven manager, for unrewarded persistence in explaining the actual rules to the ref.

Back soon hopefully

Golden Bulls

Newhaven FC played host to Jersey at the Trafalgar Ground in the Preliminary qualifying round of the FA Cup

In the previous round the Dockers scored 6 and the Bulls scored 10 so it was never going to be dull.

The Bulls scored due to a goalkeeping error before the break. Newhaven had a penalty saved then the Bulls scored 3 more. 4-0 to the visitors with some real quality on display.  They grow them with big elbows in Jersey.

Watching the cricket was good too. Funny watching them run indoors every time the rain starts. Could have watched the bowls too but they need to cut the hedge for a better view.

POTM: Solomon for the Bulls with 2 excellent goals.  Git!

Good luck to the Bulls in the rest of the competition.   Hope you have a good cup run.

Boom Boom (On Go The Lights)

Tranmere RoversFC visit Swindle Town FC in League 2 at the County Ground

On a mild night in Wiltshire, the Robins played host to the Rovers and they even managed to keep the floodlights on for the whole 90 minutes although not everyone got to see all 90 because the coach carrying the tickets broke down.

It was awesome to be surrounded by the SWA again. We had a good night and the Tequila was flowing.

It was a lively game but finished 0-0 thanks to an outstanding performance from Joe to keep another clean sheet for the Rovers on the road.

POTM: Audrey for a heroic effort to get us our tickets so we could get into the game. Up the Souper White Army.

Hope the lovely EFL could hear the songs we sang for them.

When The Ship Goes Down

Newhaven FC hosted Bexhill United FC in their first 21/22 season home fixture in the Southern Combined League Premiere Division at the Trafalgar Ground.

In a very hard fought game, the Pirates were sunk by the feisty Dockers whose buccaneering spirit helped them to plunder the booty of 3 points with a goal in each half.  The 2 close range goals were scored by Lee Robinson and Tom Cooklin. The ref issued no cards and so nobody had to walk the plank.

On the way to the ground we passed the local RNLI hero hangout and navigated the HO CHI MIHN trail.

POTM: The dog behind the goal that heckled (barked at) the opposition keeper for every goal kick.

See you at Swindle๐Ÿคžthen back here for Eastbourne.

Crosstown Traffic

Newhaven FC v Eastbourne Borough Development Squad in pre-season friendly

The Dockers tooks on The Sports from the National League South

The game kicked off 45 minutes late due to traffic chaos in Newhaven caused by UK Power Networks digging up the pavement but closing the road then going home.

The Dockers were 2 down by the break but they dug in and came back to win 3-2 in a solid and organised display.  The Sports had some quality on display and some dodgy hair too, I'm talking to you manbun and aliceband but we're the losers on the night.  HA HA. Get your hair cut. ✂

POTM: Captain of the ferry, MS Seven Sisters, nice parking.

Thanks as ever to the excellent catering Ladies.

Just one more thing, we'll done Tranmere.

See you soon.

Suburban Housebound Blues

Horsham FC v Haywards Heath Town FC in a pre-season friendly

The Hornets travel to the Hanbury Park Stadium to take on the Blues.

It was nice to be outside watching football after 4 weeks of shouting at it on the telly.  There were a few good and lots of half(ish) chances and enough miles covered to give a few sore legs in the morning.  It finished goalless but could have gone either way with some set pieces coming close.

Lovely ground, friendly people and like the Blues kit.

POTM - Rodrigues was good to watch

Football's coming home.  Not sure it ever left.

Up the Hornets.

And Tranmere won 7-1 at Lairds

The Dawes of Deception

Tranmere  v Morecambe in the League 2 playoff semi final at Prenton Park.

The Rovers host the Shrimps on the Green Green Grass at the Stadium of White.

In something that was halfway between an  impressive defensive display and a RADA audition, Morecambe came away 2-1 winners.  Peter Clarke scoring a bullet header for the first time in a while.  Special thanks go to Mendes-Gomez for holding Joe down to allow them to score.

An absolute masterclass in time wasting today from the Shrimps.  I hope FGR were watching and making notes for their upcoming publication of Football Shithousery of Dummies.

MOTM: Danny Lloyd for helping their physio carry his bag off the pitch. Such a kind hearted gesture.  ❤

How good did it feel to be back.  We go again on Sunday.  Let's hope it's Shrimp Gumbo for Sunday lunch.

Hope to see you at Wembley๐Ÿคž
